Title: inner anxiety
Size: 15.2cm x 22.3
Medium: block print
Exhibition Text: My peace “inner anxiety” focuses on my real life anxiety that doesn't show on the surface. My piece was inspired by Kathe Kollwitz and her ways of expressing her anxieties throughout her art. I used a carving tool with different blades to crave my piece out of a slat as well as water based ink
Title: emotions
Size: 2ft x 3ft
Medium: Acrylic
Exhibition Text: My piece is a representation of my different emotions and how I identify with them. Emotions are fluid and you can feel different emotions any time of the day you don't have to feel the same all day. I like the feeling of being able to know its acceptable to not feel the same emotions all day. I was inspired by Edvard Munch and his way of putting his mental illnesses into his paintings. I try to bring my similar issues into my art as well. My work shows how because emotions are fluid anxiety doesn't always look the same all the time.
Title : Salt in the wound
Size: 24 cm x 20 cm
Medium: oil pastel on canvas
Exhibition Text: My piece called “salt in the wound” focuses on a girl who feels that she cant speak out about her mental health that is clouding her head. The work has the emphasis of this by getting rid of her mouth and her eyes. Getting rid of the “window of the soul” and her mouth makes her impossible to read. She is sitting in water, ocean washing the blood over her face, getting salt in the “wound”. Society makes it seem that when women have issues they need to keep them quiet to themselves and not speak up about them, or they are portrayed in a negative light. Feeling like they are drowning with their problems.
Title: Girl with a claw clip
Size: 3ft x 3ft
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Exhibition Text: My work was based on “Girl With a Pearl Earring”. I Painted myself into the painting and choose to make my claw clip the focus of the painting rather than have the earring be the focus. The name because of this became a play on the original name, changing the earring part to say claw clip.
Title: Twin flames
Size: 51in x 40in
Medium: watercolor
Exhibition Text: My painting is based off the idea of twin flames, a person being another person's other half or mirrored soul. I decided to make this picture be me and my best friend because she is my other half. We are basically the same person in two different bodies. I wanted to find a way to visualize my friendship through this theme and how much it means to me.
Title: drowning
Size: 8.3 in x 5.8 in
Medium: Mixed media
Exhibition Text: My Project is a mixed media piece. I used oil pastels and water color. I wanted to create a visual representation of how it feels to drown in your feelings, I used weights tied to myself in the project to represent this. The color choices and visual elements I used help to represent the idea of drowning in your feelings
Title: Hidden emotions
Size: 3ft x 3ft
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Exhibition Text: My Project is an acrylic painting done on canvas. My work is based on myself and my conflicting emotions of anger and sadness. I wanted it to look like the anger was hiding and the sadness was more prominent but anger can be hidden in the sadness. I was inspired by a painting I did in the past and brought some of the aspects into this project, as well as my inspiration from Edvard Munch.
Title: Wave of worry
Size: 1ft x 1ft
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Exhibition Text: My Project is an acrylic painting done on canvas. My work is based on myself and my anxiety. I used two canvases to work to show How you can be calm and free one moment and then the next you could be anxious and uptight. I expressed this through hair color. The blue color represents the calm feelings, and the sickly green color represents the anxious feeling.
Title: sense of self
Size: 1ft x 2ft
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Exhibition Text: This project is based someone being their authentic self compared to faking who they are around other people. The girl on top is looking back at who she was before and how unhappy she was pretending to be someone shes not. The background colors are different to show the different feeling
within herself. Its a representation of change in a person, keeping the blonde hair showing the growth. I make the bottom (full) blonde hair look fake to show that this is not a real version of her.
Title: thinking with your heart
Size: 20in x 40in
Medium: watercolor
Exhibition Text: The painting is a representation of how people can think with their
heart and not their head. A lot of people make feeling based decisions
and dont always think about what can happen after making them.
I made a painting to show this. I made a thought bubble to represent the thoughts that going through someone head in a kind of cartoon-ish way and then made a heart to put in the center of it, to make it "thinking with your heart.
