exhibition textThe meaning behind my piece: when i got thee prompt good vs evil i didn't know what to do. Then i thought to think of something not so straight forward. So i chose a feeling, its not so good vs evil but the bad feeling you get when you feel lonely when losing someone, like you used to think you couldn't live without them but now you cant have them. However the good feeling is realizing that you don't need them to determine how happy you are. I also chose to make my second drawing to be of a girl with red hair because its said Women who choose to wear a very red hair are distinguished by their audacity. The red is the sign of courage. It made me feel like if the drawing could feel these emotions she would have the courage to move past her lose.

planning
I started with sketching out my board planning out where i wanted everything to go. I then started to think about what materials I wanted to use. I used prisma colored pencils and water colors. I planed to use water colors as a base and then put color pencils over to put in the details of the work. I planned to use contrasting colors to represent my idea. The grays on the left side represent the grief of losing someone even if you can still see them. The bright color of the right side of a girl's hair represents courage and being okay with not having them in your life. I planned to have the backgrounds gray as well.
process
I started with a blank sketching board and started to sketch the first illustration. I then started to use watercolor to put a base color for illustration. I then used color pencils to put in more details. I used both watercolors and colored pencils to blend out the gray colors on the left side of the portrait. For the right side I did the same thing but with more then gray colors. I used all color pencils for the girls hair, and then colored pencils but also water colors for the skin. I used black water colors and blue color pencil for her dress
I used a color pencil for the bottom half of the picture because in the original the bottom was mostly gray with different darker details. I then used a watered down gray paint to go over it and blend. For the girl with the red hair I did the same process but I now had to use color for her hair and skin. I started with all the black and white parts since I already had done that for the previous painting.
I then went in with red and orange water color for the base of her hair. After I went in with colored pencils to finish her hair. Her skin was the same process as her hair, going in with water color as a base and then finishing with colored pencils.
critique
Similarities: I tried to use similar strokes when completing the work since I am remaking the art. I used the same colors as the original artists.
The meaning behind the work was the same between my work and the artists work. Munch for example has the meaning that his subject is lonely and unhappy because they have nobody to speak to. My project is representing that because in mine its trying to show what it looks like to miss someone , and then having the girl with red hair be the opposite, showing more confidence and no longer missing them.
Differences: The meaning of the paintings are different. Munch had a similar theme but The girl with the red hairs meaning was different than what my meaning was.
I used different materials for creating the work than the original artists used.
I used a different background color for the The girl with red hair.
The technique and materials was different for my work compared to Munches because his used actual pencils compared to make water colors and colored pencils also you can see more of an etching technique on his.
Reflection
This project gave me the most stress I think over all. I had no idea at first what I wanted to do for bad vs good. After giving it a lot of thought I like that I went on how a feeling can be perceived as a good or bad thing, or can be changed into a good thing. However finding art to go along with this was difficult for me, I had no idea how to show this through art. I liked the munch art work I chose for this project and while I do like the second piece of art Im not sure I love it for this project. I think I could have used a different work and may have gone in a better direction. I think having a prompt was difficult for me because I like making my own Ideas better, but also having to use art works already made was difficult as well.
