exhibition text
My piece is a representation of my different emotions and how I identify with them. Emotions are fluid and you can feel different emotions any time of the day you don't have to feel the same all day. I like the feeling of being able to know its acceptable to not feel the same emotions all day. I was inspired by Edvard Munch and his way of putting his mental illnesses into his paintings. I try to bring my similar issues into my art as well. My work shows how because emotions are fluid anxiety doesn't always look the same all the time.
inspiration
Art in focus : Edvard Munch
When looking for inspiration I remembered my inspiration of Edvard Munch from my last project and how he ties his emotions and metal illness into his art. This is a big inspiration because any time I can I put my emotions into my art. One of his works that really spoke to me was Anxiety in the work he put his feelings of feeling like an individual in a group of people. My work is also centered around my ever changing anxiety .

Planning
When I was planing for my project I first focused on what the meaning of my painting before even drawing anything. Then once I had my idea I started my planning drawing. In this drawing I started with drawing the emotions I wanted to portray In my painting and wrote factors around it. I put some color on it to separate the emotions and picture what paint I would want to go there.
I put my my very basic ideas around them that fit into my theme of emotions/mental illness. I really wanted to focus on how mental illness is a fluid thing and nobody looks the same.
experimentation
I experimented with different ways to place the emotions and focused on the facial expressions of each of the faces on the painting. I moved the faces around to see what placement I liked best I ended up moving all the faces around so that the neutral face was on top. I didn't play around as much with the colors because from the beginning I knew i wanted warm colors to represent happy emotions, blue to represent sad emotions and finally neutral colors for the neutral emotions
Processes
I started by making my canvas, I put the wood frame together first and made it 2ft by 3ft for my painting. I then cut the canvas material to size and stapled it to my canvas. I then Gessoed my canvas twice so than it saw ready for paint. After my coats of gesso dried I sketched my drawing for the painting. When I started to paint I started with the back ground which took most of my time to get it to be blended. Then I worked on my sadder emotion first going in with cool tones , then worked on the happier emotion with warmer tones. Finally i mixed browns with white and small amounts of red and yellow to make peach for my neutral tones. I made all the eyes the same with them just being a purplish color to signify that the eyes are the window to the soul.

Reflection
When I am picking inspiration or topics for my work I find that when I cant relate it to my experiences with my own emotions or anxiety its a more meaningful piece for me and I really take pleasure when working on it. I have inspired by the meaning behind Edvard Munches are and if i were to do anything again I would try to work with oil paints like he did in his painting.
